What a better place to be when the weather is this hot than under the water scuba diving. Temperatures have been running in the high seventies in the area lakes.
Last fall we had a story about a diver that had an anchor intentionally dropped near him while he was diving in Lake Six. Here a follow up on the incident by Jim Grier.
Hi Gary and Bottom Time readers. To remind readers, the original incident occurred last September when I was diving at Lake 6. A pontoon boat with a couple of men and some kids came directly overhead of me. They were attracted to my dive flag and deliberately dropped an anchor right next to the flag. The anchor came crashing down in front of my face, just missed me by inches, and stirred up the sediment in front of me. The further details were posted last fall right after it happened. Anyway, I was finally called last February by the detective from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's office working on the case. It had taken them a long time to follow up and track down the offenders. But they finally found them and talked to the driver of the boat. It turned out to be some men who had borrowed a Camp Cherith pontoon boat (from the Camp Cherith landing, not the public access) the previous day and gone fishing. They had good fishing and decided to bring their kids back the next day, which is when they saw my dive flag and the incident occurred. The men apologized and said they were very sorry, that they had set a bad example for their kids, that they all had learned, and they would certainly respect dive flags and stay a proper distance in the future. Camp Cherith where the boat had been borrowed from also apologized and has now instituted new rules requiring training and knowing about dive flags before anyone will be allowed to use their boats. The detective asked if I wanted to press charges. I said, no, that I accepted the apologies and that my main concern was that such an incident not happen again. The public access on the lake is marked with a dive flag warning and the camp now has rules in place to make sure that its boaters know about divers in the lake.
All's well that ends well.
The bottom line is to NEVER LET DOWN YOUR GUARD ABOUT BOATS WHILE DIVING, including those overhead while you're at depth!!!

All the used steel cylinders sold and I will update those that wanted one when we get more in.
We will have an advanced diver classroom this Friday evening the 22 of July at 6:30 here at the dive center. Anyone is welcome to take the course even if you are certified open water from another agency. The four dives can be done at anytime after the classroom. Progressive divers are always looking for ways to become better safer divers and gain diving experience.
We are looking at doing another trip to Cozumel this next Jan. so if you are interested let me and if there is enough interest we will put a trip together.
Tri-State Diving crew had to move the moorings for the yacht on Big Detroit by the Holiday INN. We had purchased a big impact wrench for another job and we made an attachment for it so we can pull and reset the anchor moorings. It worked great
