Edition 15
It is hard to believe we are into Aug. all ready. It seems summer goes so fast and so far we had an excellent summer for diving and there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy getting out and doing some diving. Most of the lakes still have fairly good visibility and water temps. are comfortable even in a 3 mill. suit.
This Friday Aug. 10 th is the classroom for the Advanced Open Water Class. It starts at 6:30 PM here at the dive center. Saturday we will be going to the mine pits to dive so those that want to get their deep dive in for the Advanced Class this is a good time to do it. There are four dives for the class; deep, navigational, low visibility and night dive.
We have quite a few signed up for the Cozumel trip in Jan. and still have some openings left. We are thinking about trying something different this year. In the past we have run the trip as an all inclusive trip with flight, lodging, meals, 5 days of two tank boat dives, and unlimited shore diving. The trip does not include tips, beverages (booze and pop), airport transfers, and marine park fees. This year we are looking at offering two options. 1. the same as in the past or option 2. everything as in the past except you can book your own flight. The airline has made it difficult for us to book groups through them as we now have to pay in full once we book the number of seats we want and we get no refund for seats we do not use. So we are only getting the seats as we sell them so if the plane fills and someone wants to go they will have to book their own tickets or you can book your own anyway if you have miles to use or can find a better rate. Usually we get a better rate by booking early and by using charter flights but we will not take a chance of being stuck with unused tickets.

Tyler Johnson found a medallion while doing dive number three of his checkout dives. The medallion had been in Pickerel Lake since 1998. He won a tank rattler. Both medallions found this year so far has been by students. I did not think they had a better eye than some of us veteran divers. (Ha Ha).
No one has found the big Medallion yet. The Crayfish feed is set for Aug. 26 here at the dive center. This is always a fun event.
We are looking at diving the shipwrecks on Lake Superior the weekend of Sept.7, 8, and 9 so if you are interested let me know as we usually have a limited amount of slots. I will give you more facts on price and the wrecks we will be diving. We usually do at least three wrecks and those that have gone in the past of had an excellent time. You do not need a dry suit to dive these wrecks and the visibility can be up to 60 feet.
